  •  Wonderful week in paradise - thank you so much

  •  This is a beautiful retreat, anyone wanting to escape everyday life and enjoy the great outdoors with a few creature comforts, should stay here. A fantastic winter alternative to camping

  •  Fantastic place to retreat to and spend uninterrupted time with family. Loved it.

  •  Thank you Jo for the lovely stay, the five of us and the dog had so much fun! The stream was a wonderful place to explore and the wilderness around us made for a perfect setting. We BBQ'd all but one meal over the five nights....I was in my element! We made special memories and will definitely be back again

  •  A friend and I had the most amazing time in this beautiful cabin! The setting is perfect and the babbling brook and birdsong is the best soundtrack ever...Lots of blues guitar on the porch and by the fire! Will definitely return! Highly recommend this beautiful place

  •  I wish I could give more than 5 stars! Our stay was so much more than we could have hoped for. Our only regret is we didn't book for longer but we will definitely be back.

  •  This place is spot on if you are looking for a genuine eco getaway. They are the real deal, passionate about the environment, even down to all the timber being sourced within a 15 mile radius. Every little design detail is perfect too, and the setting could not be better. The stars at night were awesomely bright too. Heaven.

  •  Just back from the most incredible nights stay in a Devon Den! Cannot recommend this place enough. If you want a total escape with complete rest and relaxation, then this is a must for you! First class, hand crafted little piece of heaven nestled in the Devon countryside.....it was so hard to leave!

  •  We had a perfect weekend tucked away from the rest of civilisation. We loved it so much we're coming back next month for another three days! You've thought of everything to make a stay as comfortable as possible and it was completely delightful; a lovely way to spend our anniversary.

  •  A stunning getaway in a beautifully handcrafted cabin. Everything has been thought about, down to the bunch of dried herbs in case you fancy making your glamping experience a gourmet one. The hot shower was too good to leave. We had a fantastic night off-grid and we are definitely coming back!

  •  Had a lovely peaceful night away. Could have stayed indefinitely. Everything was thought about and the woodburner was so warm and kept us toasty all night. The cabin is beautiful, the work put in is amazing. A wonderful place right on our doorstep that felt like the only place on earth.

   The Site:

Devon Dens is a little woodland treat set in two acres of woodland, in one of the least light-polluted areas in England. The site is open year round, and is private and south facing with a delightful stream babbling away - perfect for paddling. Located just eight miles from Dartmoor, we are surrounded by heavenly countryside with walks taking in a proper local pub and pretty Devon villages. The site is owned by Jo Henderson and Ben Ranson, founders of Barrel Top Wagons making remarkable timber structures from sustainable local wood.

The eco ethos runs through both businesses, and Devon Dens is run very much with an intention for guests to holiday with a light foot print. Power is supplied by solar, toilets are dry, and grey water is treated through reed beds. Much is done to encourage wildlife and biodiversity.

We're proud as punch of where we live, and keen as mustard to introduce you to the delights on offer in the area. Lovely local produce can be ordered - breakfast, barbecue or afternoon tea hampers. The kitchen garden bursts into life in summer, and we love supplying guests with home grown goodies whenever possible.

With no WiFi or phone signal, this is the perfect place to escape from this sometimes crazy world, to stop, breathe, read, rest, walk, eat and reconnect. With nature, with loved ones and WITH YOURSELF.

Forget glamping - this is grown up camping for the clever crowd...

Things to know...

  • For prices, availability and to book, click the button above.
  • We have tried to keep the site as natural and wild as possible, with open water and various other hazards. Children are very welcome at Devon Dens - we have lots of families stay and return, however - parents bring small ones at their own risk.
  • This is an off-grid site. Solar provides power. Hair dryers / straighteners / irons won't work. The sheep won't mind what you look like. We hope you won't. Please come intending to share our eco ethos.
  • Furry friends. We welcome up to two dogs on the basis they are absolutely kept under control and all poo picked up!
  • This is a quiet, rural site. If you’re looking for a boozy, crazy, noisy break - sorry, this isn’t for you. BUT, if gazing at stars next to a fire pit, or playing scrabble with loved ones in front of the wood burner, or doing a six mile circular walk (with a proper local pub thrown in), or even just stopping, reading, watching for the kingfisher and listening to the buzzards, sounds just the ticket, we can't wait to see you.
