  •  Thank you Jo for the lovely stay, the five of us and the dog had so much fun! The stream was a wonderful place to explore and the wilderness around us made for a perfect setting. We BBQ'd all but one meal over the five nights....I was in my element! We made special memories and will definitely be back again

  •  This place is spot on if you are looking for a genuine eco getaway. They are the real deal, passionate about the environment, even down to all the timber being sourced within a 15 mile radius. Every little design detail is perfect too, and the setting could not be better. The stars at night were awesomely bright too. Heaven.

First class, hand crafted little piece of heaven nestled in the Devon countryside.....it was so hard to leave!

  •  We had a perfect weekend tucked away from the rest of civilisation. We loved it so much we're coming back next month for another three days! You've thought of everything to make a stay as comfortable as possible and it was completely delightful; a lovely way to spend our anniversary.

  •  A stunning getaway in a beautifully handcrafted cabin. Everything has been thought about, down to the bunch of dried herbs in case you fancy making your glamping experience a gourmet one. The hot shower was too good to leave. We had a fantastic night off-grid and we are definitely coming back!

  •  Had a lovely peaceful night away. Could have stayed indefinitely. Everything was thought about and the woodburner was so warm and kept us toasty all night. The cabin is beautiful, the work put in is amazing. A wonderful place right on our doorstep that felt like the only place on earth.

   The Site:

Devon Dens is a private eco-hideaway set in two acres of woodland in the quiet, unspoilt countryside of West Devon. The site is owned by Jo Henderson and Ben Ranson, founders of Barrel Top Wagons who make remarkable timber structures from sustainable local wood.

The eco ethos runs through both businesses, and Devon Dens is run very much with an intention for guests to holiday with a light carbon foot print. The sun provides power, toilets are dry with natural water filtration systems, all waste is composted and there's bee hives and a wildlife pond to encourage biodiversity.

We're keen as mustard to introduce you to the delights on offer in the area. Lovely local produce can be ordered in advance - breakfast, barbecue or afternoon tea hampers - and in summer, our kitchen garden provides home grown goodies whenever possible. If it's calmness you seek, we can arrange an onsite massage or there's the wood fired sauna to enjoy, before relaxing in one of the hammocks or curling up with one of the many books in front of the wood burner.

With no WiFi or phone signal, this is the perfect place to stop still, breathe deeply, and reconnect. With nature, with loved ones and WITH YOURSELF.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions the sauna is not in use and massages are unavailable at present - hopefully these will be available from the end of the year.

   AVAILABLE SOON!

We are very excited to share changes that will be made at Devon Dens in Autumn / Winter 2020. After four years of welcoming many happy guests, the existing Den will be toddling off to a new home, to be replaced with a larger, more deluxe cabin. Complete with internal shower room and dry toilet, this stunning structure will be a stretched out version of the existing Carpenter’s Cabin and will sleep up to six on a super king / twin, two x singles on a mezzanine and two x sofa beds.

With a long veranda complete with rocking chair for reading and listening to the sounds of the forest, the cabin will be powered by the sun, with LPG gas boiler for comfort and heat. A small fridge, full size oven and four ring gas hob mean this will be perfect for families and friends to gather and feast. There will be hammocks, fire pit and BBQ in your own area with huge outdoor table. The calendar is now open for December and beyond. See below for more info about what to expect in this glorious new space.

We are going through an incredible time – of change, of different rules, guidelines and possibly a new "normal" when we emerge. Perhaps the respect owed to nature, the environment and to a simpler life will be abundant. We truly hope so.

For us here at Devon Dens, now is time to look at what needs to change. The following points are part of our strategy to offer assurance and keep everyone safe – guests, us and our surrounding neighbours and community.

This is not exhaustive and many of these measures were already being done.

If you have any questions about covid-19 or any other aspect of staying with us, get in touch.

Things to know...

  • For prices, availability and to book, click the button above.
  • We have tried to keep the site as natural and wild as possible, with open water and various other hazards. Children are very welcome at Devon Dens - we have lots of families stay and return, however - parents bring small ones at their own risk.
  • This is an off-grid site. Solar provides power. Hair dryers / straighteners / irons won't work. The sheep won't mind what you look like. We hope you won't. Please come intending to share our eco ethos.
  • Furry friends. We welcome up to two dogs on the basis they are absolutely kept under control and all poo picked up!
  • This is a quiet, rural site. If you’re looking for a boozy, crazy, noisy break - sorry, this isn’t for you. BUT, if gazing at stars next to a fire pit, or playing scrabble with loved ones in front of the wood burner, or doing a six mile circular walk (with a proper local pub thrown in), or even just stopping, reading, watching for the kingfisher and listening to the buzzards, sounds just the ticket, we can't wait to see you.
